Welcome to Farmer Homestay

The rural landscape of Katunje Village (1900 m.) in the Dhading District is your homestay with us. The village is 18 Kms from Dhading Besi (700 m.), the district headquarters. The drive, on the semi-paved road, is a comfortable 45 minutes. With Prithvi Highway, the trans-national highway, running through southern portion of the district, our homestay village is by far accessible on road.

At Katunje Village, you will be witness to a microcosm of Nepal. Many ethnic communities like Newars, Tamangs, Gurungs & Magars live in proximity of one another. Roughly fifteen minutes walking distance of each other, it is remarkable to see the successful way in which they have managed to retain their unique cultural, ethnic and occupational identity through the generations.

While strolling through the village, you could learn the skills to make ‘khukuri’ (local sword) from a master craftsman or have a sip of ‘raksi’ (millet wine). During monsoons, you could allow yourself to dip in mud and paddy farm(rice) as community sings and dances to the occasion. If you are here with us, even reaping of rice during autumn is an interesting process too. Even during fall or spring, you could see how farmers plant wheat or corn. For those looking to shed their knowledge/experience or help, there will be opportunities to volunteer in local schools & hospitals as well. A 20-minute walk to a local pharmacy or half-hour drive to the nearest hospital, should allay your fears should medical help be needed.

With our ‘version’ of homestay, you should feel as close to Nepalese at large. Agrarian lifestyle is woven into the very fabric of rural Nepali villages. We hope you will adjust your culinary palette, so as to enjoy your meals from the produce of those fields. Sometimes mashed potatoes instead of hashed but may be not sweet corn (as corn might not be readable available during that season)!  You will have your accommodation in spare room/s in houses belonging to and used by members from that community. Your bed and your accommodation will be made as comfortable as possible given the village setting. We hope by living with and like us, you will be able to experience Nepal that few have done.
